Being a part time waiter and finished college in new York, met a student also from where I came from, Hong Kong, and got married right after graduation. Hand built a Chinese restaurant in the middle of no man's land. Of course there was no business in no man's land ! The wife divorced me because, she said, " You do not make enough money to support the family. " That was 1984, the year Zhang Xin graduated from England and came to new York, then back to China. I think she got the trust from the Jews in Wall Street to invest real Estate in Beijing. The rest is history. George Wu, ARCHITECT, AIA, NCARB 2017-11-13
I am an 80 years old poor New York architect today. I came to New York in 1956 from Hong Kong as a full time waiter, saved $500 for the first year tuition in school of architecture, borrowed student loans and working weekends and summers to finish college. worked for Ulrich Franzen, I.M.Pei, S.O.M. Gwathmey etc. until no one would hire an old man any more. George Wu, AIA, ARCHITECT., NCARB 2017-8-25
Well , My grand daughter is going to Oxford University this semester from New York for her first year study. She decided not to take the scholarship of $100,000 from R.P.I.. and go to England instead. I am sure it is her better choice. I AM VERY PROUD OF HER ! George Wu, AIA, ARCHITECT. NCARB 2017-8-26

There is no coincidence. She didn't succeed because she worked hard, but she succeeded because she had connections.
